I'M IN MIAMI BITCH! PEZ Q&A
What do you write? Are you in a crew?
PEZ. Barcelona Happy Style Crew, I’m alone but I don’t care and APC crew.
In what city did you start painting in the streets? Do you feel your work has influenced the community in return? If so, how? Is there a relationship between the artist and the community in which they work?
I started in Barcelona. Yes, I think that I have been influenced by some other artists that started making smiling characters.
Did you go to school or are you self taught?
I’m self taught. The streets were my school.
How did you get started in the arts and why?
I start bombing and just doing tags on the metro and on the streets with my friends ZOSEN and MASH. This desire lead me to show my ideas on the streets, I left my mark all over the city.
How long have you been working in the streets?
My fish is smiling since 1999
Who or What inspires you the most?
Characters, bombing, graffiti, comics, Keith Haring, logo art, Barcelona, Punk, skateboarding, Hip Hop, vandalism and gangs.
What should the general public know about street art? What stereotype about street art/graffiti do you hate the most?
I hate everyone who doesn’t respect graffiti.
Are you a full time artist? Do you have a day job? Is it best to be full time artist or not worry about it and make your $$$ elsewhere, that way you can paint what and how you want, which one offers a more creative outlook?
I’m full time. I’m creating, drawing, painting, designing and decorating. It’s the best job because I don’t feel like I’m working. For me it is a like a hobby where I receive money for doing what ever I want to do.
What are you working on now?
I’m just chilling on the sofa, reading e-mails of customers who want to buy canvases. Oh! I’m working on an album cover for a musician, a good friend, thanks for reminding me, I totally forgot.
What do you hope to achieve or accomplish by putting your work in the street?
I hope to continue this enjoyable life and giving good vibrations in the streets. If I can make the streets and meet with more artists around the world and to work together. Get involved with awesome projects and feel that people appreciate and respect my work with a smile on their face.
